RA Shifts and "The Lottery"
While RAs are expected cover their chosen shift each week for the semester,
they may take
one week off for personal circumstances, such as school breaks and family vacations.
  • switches with other RAs to cover a particular shift are allowed.

Because one of the RA faculty comes in, the shifts for the mid-semester and end-of-semester evaluations
(
Calendar) are considered mandatory, unless special arrangements are made during Orientation Weekend
RAs serve one four-hour shift per week.
  • During the school year, this is all they are allowed to serve
  • During the summer, this is the minimum they must serve
  • additional shifts may be served if other RAs are not already on duty (e.g., covering an open shift,
    switches, etc.)

RAs choose their weekly shift according to The Lottery, held during their Orientation Weekend.  The order in
which RAs select their shift is determined by:
1.  number of semesters served
  • productivity over those semesters
2.  date and time application + Criminal Background Check request + application fee are received
  • consideration is given to those coming from away to CT
