RA Program Receives Grant from CT Clinical Oncology Trials Network
The Research Associates Program successfully competed for a $25,000 grant from the Connecticut
Clinical Oncology Trials Network for our study, "Outcomes from a facilitating intervention among
emergency department patients and visitors overdue for colonoscopy screening."
The funding will enable to RA Program to conduct this study at its clinical site, the emergency department
at St. Vincent's Medical Center during the spring, summer and fall semesters, 2009.
If successful, the protocol for this study will form the basis for expanded, nationwide research among the
RA Consortium institutions in the spring, summer and fall, 2010.

Research Associates Begin Service Based on Prior Studies
Beginning in spring semester, 2009, Research Associates will begin implementing the results of
research done by their colleagues in previous semesters.
Our work showed benefits for patients and visitors who were asked questions about their latest Pap test,
mammogram, Prostate Specific Antigen test (PSA), digital rectal exam and tobacco cessation/Quitline
referrals. Now, when they finish enrolling all potential subjects in a current study, RAs can expand their
impact by translating research into practice. Also, this will greatly increase the RAs' clinical experience.
Between research and service, we expect they will each see well over a hundred patients and visitors
