Immunization

A flu shot is highly recommended for RAs in the spring semester. Influenza is commonly seen among patients in the Emergency Department and is a serious illness that can potentially be avoided by the flu vaccine.

RAs may go to Employee Health or the Outpatient Pharmacy at St. Vincent's Medical Center to receive a flu shot. Employee Health is open from 7AM to 4PM Monday through Friday, and the Outpatient Pharmacy at St. Vincent's Medical Center is open from 8AM to 8PM Monday through Friday. When you go to get your flu shot at St. Vincent's please identify yourself as a Research Associate and there will be no charge for the immunization. For directions to the Outpatient Pharmacy or Employee Health enter through the main entrance of the hospital and ask someone at the security desk for assistance.

If you have already received a flu shot, please forward proof of documentation to Ms. Joanne Velardi of Employee Health via fax (203) 576 - 5928 or e-mail flu@stvincents.org -- please identify yourself in the e-mail as "from Research Associates".

If a Research Associate does not want to get a flu shot, he/she will be required to wear a face mask when working with patients.

Please download SVMC - RA Program Immunization Requirements

  • have your health care provider complete this form

Please be sure your health care provider knows that:

  • either Varicella titer or documentation of a vaccination series is required
    • a history of chickenpox is not sufficient
  • PPD test for tuberculosis must be within the last 12 months

The RA Program at St. Vincent’s recommends that RAs be vaccinated against Hepatitis B and demonstrate Antibody Titers to this potentially preventable illness.

  • RAs who choose not to have the Hepatitis B vaccine and/or Antibody titers may sign the Hepatitis B Declination at Training.

In summary, for Hepatitis B, there are three (3) options:

  1. Hepatitis B vaccination series is complete and a Hepatitis B surface antigen demonstrates a response or
  2. Hepatitis B vaccination series is in progress or
  3. Hepatitis B vaccination declination form

Note: You MUST bring the completed Immunization Form to your drug screening!

When you go for your drug testing, please bring a copy of your completed SVMC - RA Program Immunization Requirements to one of St. Vincent's Immediate Health Care Centers for your health assessment and drug testing.

-- Do not send these records to the RA Program
